LYDIC’S LOCKDOWN TRAVELOGUE
#1: April 7, 2013
Receiver’s Beach, Eleuthera, Bahamas
Our first trip after Ruthie was born was to Eleuthera, a relatively remote island in The Bahamas. Ruthie was just three and a half months old, but we weren’t going to let that keep us from going to our friend Greg’s wedding. This was the day after the wedding, and perhaps the most stressful day we’d had since Ruthie was born. The wedding was on the beach. The weather was beautiful. The food was top notch and the whole day was lovely. But it got late and Ruthie became inconsolable. The ride home in our beater rental minivan, with the steering wheel on the left, even though we drove on the left, is where the real stress started. Screaming baby. Pitch black outside. Couldn’t figure out where we were or where we were going. Nowhere to stop. A 40 minute drive felt like hours. But then that next day, we found this beach, and it all became worth it. A flat shallowness for as far as you could walk. Absolute clarity. Perfect aquamarine blue. And not a single other person on the beach. Just absolute paradise.
